"The Sisterlocks Story"
Q: What is Sisterlocks?
A: Sisterlocks is a natural hair management system that allows women, and men, with tightly textured hair to take advantage of a wide range of today's hairstyles without having to alter the natural texture of their hair.
Q:How do I choose a Consultant to install and maintain my Sisterlocks?
A: SisterlocksTM is a trademark product taught in an approved training class by Certified Sisterlock Trainers that have been handpicked by Dr. JoAnne Cornwell. Certified SisterlocksTM Consultants and Trainees offer the SisterlocksTM as a package and maintain their certification to stay in good standing with SisterlocksTM in order to be listed on the Sisterlocks.com website. Do your research, ask the questions, see pictures and speak with their clients in an effort to find the Consultant that will meets your expectations.
Q: Can I get Sisterlocks if I have relaxed hair?
A: Yes. Though the transition will take more time, your hair care professional who is trained in SisterlocksTM techniques can help you make that transition. Your styling options will increase as your natural texture grows out.
Q: Do I need to have 'fine' hair for Sisterlocks to work?
A: Not at all! In fact, the coarse, thick, tightly coiled hair is best for SisterlocksTM. Your natural abundant texture adds body and makes styling easier.
Q: am i limited in styling options with sisterlocks?
A: NO! SisterlocksTM can be styled, length permitting, as soon as they are installed. You can curl it, twist it, braid it, pin it up, pin it down, curl it, wear it to the side, bun it, WHATEVER! Sisterlocks are very versatile!
Q: How long does it take to do Sisterlocks?
A: The initial locking process takes about 12-24 hours, sometimes longer depending on the length and density of your hair. The beauty of Sisterlocks is that tightening them as your hair grows out is extremely simple, since there are no extensions to remove and re-set.
Q: Will Sisterlocks cause my hair to break or thin?
A: Just the opposite! SisterlocksTM is a gentle technique that requires no chemicals, no excessive tightening, and causes no damaging abrasion to the hair or scalp. You will find that with regular care, your locks will grow and grow, and your styling options will increase.
Q: How long does my hair need to be to start my Sisterlocks?
A: Although SisterlocksTM can be installed with just 1½ inches of natural unprocessed hair, I suggest that clients have 3 inches or longer of virgin hair and may begin with 1½ inches with relaxed hair. I recommend that if you are transitioning from a relaxer to SisterlocksTM that you do not trim the relaxer off prior to the installation.
Q: Can I add extensions to my Sisterlocks?
A: No, SisterlocksTM uses your natural hair. Without extensions, your hair is free of the extra weight that puts tension on the roots. Over time this sort of tension can lead to permanent hair loss. Without extensions, your natural hair is free to grow to its fullest potential, so don't let the idea of short hair for a short period of time rob you of years of freely growing, healthy, manageable hair.
Q: What could happen if you don't regularly maintain your Sisterlocks?
A: The integrity of your SisterlocksTM can be compromised and you could end up with locks that may break or shred due to spaces that may develop in the locks from infrequent retightenings. Bunching, which would give your locks an inconsistent appearance. Your locks can also mat and lock to another by not properly seperating after each wash. It is important that you follow your consultants reccomendations and regular retightening schedulings.
Q: Should I color my hair before I get Sisterlocks?
A: Color is a chemical process that may alter the characteristics of your curl pattern. To insure the correct locking pattern is used for your hair in the altered state, I recommend coloring before your consultation because you cannot color your hair again until after your locks have settled.
Q: WHO IS CONSIDERED A TRANSFER CLIENT?
A: Anyone who has not had their SisterlocksTM/BrotherlocksTM installed by Glory by Nature, LLC. Anyone seeking Sisterlock services by Glory by Nature, LLC MUST have a consultation. Retightening will be $30/hr. Once thhe client is given a regular retightening schedule, you will be charged according to the SisterlockTM retightening on price list.
